It’s odd looking back into the past.
There’s a site I frequent. The guys who run it don’t know me at all, but they post mp3′s of some great old out of print vinyl from the 80′s and it’s like finding that magical toy in the bottom of the cereal box. These tunes take me right back. This time it’s another Duran Duran tune, “Like an Angel”, one which I had forgotten, a B-side that I had so loved at the time. As I listened to it just now, suddenly, even though it has literally been over twenty years since I last heard it, I remembered every word and could sing right along with it. Strange how our minds recall things we think we have forgotten.
Anyway, it made me think about a photo I have somewhere in this house that’s me holding my arms out in a “ta-da” fashion dressed head to toe in Duran Duran clothes, jacket, pins, etc. standing in front of the corner of my room…. My room which was literally covered from floor to ceiling all the way around the entire four walls with Duran Duran posters and articles and pictures I cut out from various sources. I had every album you could have at the time, every single, imports, video tapes, you name it, I probably had it. There were books and badges and stickers and all kinds of things. I even had cassettes of the albums too so I could play them on my portable cassette player. Insane. Well, I looked for a while through my drawer of photos but couldn’t find the one I was thinking of, so here’s two others, both from Christmases, one in 1983 and one in 1985 or 1986 I believe. Anyway, I’m wearing a Duran Duran shirt in one and opening a Duran Duran shirt that was a gift in the other one. I literally had a different Duran Duran shirt for every day of the week.
(Weird how I never got even one Depeche Mode shirt back then…. I did make one though with fabric paint. There’s a photo of me in that floating around somewhere too. Those were the leather mini-skirt days.)
Off to bed I go…. Grands coming tomorrow at noon. Another new possible Personal Assistant for Max coming at 5pm. Wish us luck. (This one knows autism and sign language!)
