♫ ON TOP OF SPAGHETTI! ALL COVERED WITH CHEESE… ♫

♫ We hid Max’s medicine, and he ate it with ease.  Yay! ♫

Day Eight.  Got the meds in via spaghetti.  No problems.

Day Seven, got the meds in via pizza.  It was just an extra topping.  ;)

It’s gonna be okay.  Or rather it’s gonna be okay until the dose increases in another week and a half.  :(

For now though, I shall be happy with this one small step for Momkind.

In other news, we met Max’s new physical therapists and they are great!  He seemed to really enjoy himself!  No actual schedule in the works for them yet, as Max’s doctor wanted a report from them for what they thought would be best before setting up future appointments.  Hopefully though he will soon start seeing them on a regular basis.  They are even learning sign language!

Starting to think some about EQ2.  I haven’t been on in nearly a month.   I’m starting to wonder if I should cancel and get some of my money back.  I enjoy it, but I just don’t have much time for it.  And now my creative juices are beginning to stir again….  I’ve been watching all the anime and so many great Sci-Fi shows recently and it’s really made me want to write again.  Plus, the laptop keyboard feels so nice.  I can’t explain it, but typing on there is actually fun!  I love my Firefly Borealis too, but it’s up a little high for me and a bit too far away.  My hands always end up hurting.  :P

Well, that’s it for chatty stuff for now….

VISTA IS NOT EVIL

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Unless you are stupid to begin with.

I spent a few hours this morning trying to figure out why my husband’s secondary desktop, a four year old Compaq running WinXP, would suddenly turn itself off and on for no reason as if possessed or haunted.  I discovered after much trying and fiddling and testing that it is apparently a bad power switch, but in the process, while looking up information and tips online in here on my lovely Dell running the magical and wonderful Vista OS, I read, on nearly every forum I went to about every bad thing you can find said about Vista.  What the hell is wrong with people?  THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH VISTA.  I’m so comfortable with it I can hardly stand going back to mess around with WinXP which is on the majority of the older computers in this house.  In fact, the only thing I didn’t like about Vista was the User Access Control thing and the answer to that was to simply turn it off for myself so I did.  No problem.  Got my laptop with Vista 64 and did the same thing.  No problem.  Both run like an absolute dream and both pretty much run every piece of software I have installed.  The only thing both have stumbled on are some really old games that even WinXP stumbled on.  Again, let me say it so all can hear it again: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH VISTA.  Quit being a sheep and figure it out for yourself.  Microsoft isn’t perfect, (remember WinME?), but Vista is fantastic and is getting a bad rep just because people don’t know how to use their darned computers in the first place.  Geez…. I know this is an old subject to bring up but I can’t believe people are still carrying on about it…

I’m actually interested in seeing this Windows 7 dealie too….

Laptops are so cool.

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Right now I am blogging in the dark in my bed!  So cool!  Cliff left for work a short while ago and I had a wave of depression pass over me and I thought about writing my feelings down on my desktop but then I thought, hey man, I have a laptop!  So I pulled it out and set it up and here I am in the dark typing away.  Cool.  Kind of deflates my sadness a bit.

And, if you’re wondering what I was so depressed about, well, it’s kind of like this, and I’ll keep it very brief.  I am apparently the ugliest and least desirable woman in the entire world.  I do not even deserve hugs or hand holding for more than a quick hand squeeze at bedtime and one when he’s leaving for work.  And sex?  I vaguely remember sex.  About three years ago.  Vaguely.  Yeah. *sigh*  Sometimes our marriage feels like “once upon a time”….  Now though, it’s aches and pains on his part and dealing with Max on my part.  I find that I just don’t really care about anything too much anymore….  I kind of let myself go.  What difference does it make anymore any way?  It feels like those days are gone.

Anyway, yesterday there was all this threat of this really bad storm with tornados and such but then, right before it got here it fizzled out.  I should have known.  I even called Marjorie who was with Alex at a friend’s house and asked them what they were going to do.  I mean they were calling for hail and strong winds and everything else.  I actually used my laptop pretty much all of last evening because of the threat of the storm.

Wow…  This thing plows through battery power fast.  It’s at 72% right now.  It was at 100% when I started it up.

Yesterday Max and I played with the webcam on my laptop.  He was fascinated watching himself on the screen.  We played with all of the silly preset things but the bubbly one was his favorite.

Anyway, I think I need to go grab some breakfast now.  This ranting and raving makes me hungry.

I miss SBemails.

:/

*sigh*

It was like, the highlight of my Monday….  And then I would proceed to show it to anyone who passed by my computer the rest of the week.  Darn.

Bring back Strong Bad emails Chaps Bros….  We miss them…..  *sniff*

In other news…  Oh, wait….  I probably need to whisper… (In other news, I uninstalled Norton antivirus on Cliff’s compy and installed Avast.  His Norton had expired and was like two years old and his computer has been running really slow lately so I took a chance and fixed it after he left for work today.  It’s already found 12 viruses!  He also had that Bitorrent thing on there and it installs something called DNA that will eat your RAM right into the ground so i removed it.  There are safe torrent programs to use, that’s just not one of them. Anyway, he doesn’t know and I’m not going to tell him unless he doesn’t notice.  I want him to come home tonight, turn on his computer and find it running like new.  Hee hee! )

And now to finish lunch.

Do you know what “Open Source” means?

Friday, March 6th, 2009

If you don’t here’s a link: “Open Source” on Wikipedia.   I do of course and have for years so it never even occurred to me that average folks might not know what I was talking about until I was reading a random geeky blog this evening that mentioned that fact.  Wow.  I am such a geek!

I was doing the Linux thing, gosh, over ten years ago…  I used GIMP back then too…  I was really into whatever open source stuff I could find.  Some stuff I found back then I still use today.   I think I first learned about it in like 1998 while being a big and loud fan of Netscape….  (I am a BIG and LOUD fan of Firefox, Thunderbird, and Open Office now by the way…)  Whenever I need software I look for Open Source first.  You should too.  There’s not always a need for expensive software.  Take a look at Open Office if you don’t believe me.  That is one fantastic set of programs that work as good or better than the Word and Wordperfect suites.  (And that’s really saying something because I used to swear by Wordperfect.)

Anyway, just wanted to mention that…  Wow…

Migraine?

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Okay, so the blurry vision went on for two days, then, sure enough, I had the headache this morning and pretty much all day…  I took some extra strength Tylenol in the “Rapid Release Gel” form and slept almost all day.  When I woke the headache was kind of more of a dull mild ache just out of reach, if you know what I mean…  Like being aware of it but it not really hurting like it did.  Then I realized I still felt bad so I crashed on the couch for another 30 minutes.   During my couch lie-down I had a brief panic attack/hot flash that woke me up only a few minutes after I had fallen asleep, and after that I slept until it was time to get ready for Max’s bus to come.   Then, while outside with the kids I realized I was in a really bad mood.  Everything irritated the crap out of me.  I bristled and burred and fumed and jumped at everything, but after a few hours of chores and blowing bubbles for Max and eating dinner with the kids I realized everything was gone and I was left with just being really tired.   So, was that a migraine or just a bad headache?  I had the aura, the “before time”, the headache and the “after time”….  It was milder than the ones I usually get as the headache was only actually with me for most of one day instead of two or more days.

If I sound like an idiot on this it’s because I’m only now starting to figure out these stupid headaches are related to stress in our environment.  In fact, we got the car worked on so it will run for another year and it cost us the hefty sum of $980.00 and took three days to finish, and there were three things we didn’t get done to it that would have cost us an additional $400.  We also have to get the new faucet for the kitchen and get it installed still, plus all the crap about the SSI stuff and the appointment on Tuesday for it and the fact that I had to mail in my usual monthly packet to them and wrote all over it in big letters that the child support is Marjorie and Ian’s, not Max’s!  So I was stressed about that too.  Plus right now with no help, Max is driving us all a bit batty wanting constant bubbles.  In fact the kids and I are taking turns 30 minutes each to blow bubbles.  (If anyone knows of a silent bubble making machine I would love to know where I can get one.  We’ve tried several but they were all too loud and Max was scared of them.)   Anyway, there’s other stressful stuff too, but I’m too tired to think about it tonight so I’m done…  :P

I did get one of Max’s birthday presents ordered today (it glows like my keyboard and it can’t be damaged) and a splash guard for the potty to help keep the bathroom cleaner when Max uses the potty.  Those darned things are crazy expensive!  I looked everywhere and couldn’t find one cheaper than the $54 one I found at Amazon.  Everywhere else the same model was running $60-90-100 and up!  I just hope it works.

I guiltily ordered myself two things….  Both laptop related.  This bag to keep it safe, and this desk because TV trays are too high!  Max has always liked me sitting with him in the living room at night.  He wants someone with him without bothering him while he lines up cars and plays with beads and because the “newness” has worn off I can now take my laptop in there and play on it and stuff and still interact with Max since I’m not across the room at my desk and he’s fine with that.  So it solved the exact problem I wanted it for.  Yay!  I just needed a better surface to use it on and I looked for and found the cheapest desk I could that had the features I needed.  That one at Target (bought through Amazon) will do the trick, hopefully.

Well, I’m tired and really to hit the hay I think….  At least my head doesn’t hurt right now!!!  Yay!!!!

I did a bad thing….

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Okay, so in the spirit of tax season (AKA parent Christmas) Cliff and I went shopping yesterday.  We picked out the new toilets, both of which are higher than normal, with very large elongated bowls to accommodate Max’s potty needs.  We also picked out the kitchen faucet replacement and the two (unnecessary I think, but Cliff is insisting) bathroom sink faucets and we’re getting some of it installed through Lowes and some installed via a construction friend of Cliff’s who offered.  (Lowes price for installing toilets is reasonable, but their faucet installation cost is more than the toilets!!)  We’re very happy about that.

We’re also going to get our car fixed next week, the usual oil change, tire check, and so forth, but we’re also replacing the battery (we’re been having trouble with it for a while now), getting the heating and cooling fixed and getting the electrical stuff repaired.  None of the controls for any of that stuff works at present.  He was going to get a new stereo put in the car, but after our shopping trip yesterday, that’s most likely not going to happen.  Basically, the original plan was to get Cliff a new computer.  Instead, he wanted a new TV for the bedroom and an XBox 360.  So, that’s what we got.  Merry Tax Season.  Ho ho ho!

And this is where we come to what awful thing I did…. Weeell, see, I’m typing this on my new HP Pavilion dv2941se Special Edition laptop…  It has 4gbs of ram, an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor, 250gb hard drive, DVD+/-R/RW drive, webcam, beautiful scrolly artwork on the cover and everywhere, and (insert angelic music) an nVidia GeForce 7150m graphics card.  And before you say “but that card has shared memory” let me say that I did research and learned that this exact computer will work with Everquest 2 as of a forum entry I found dated August 2008.  The only difference that person had on their laptop from mine was that fact that they had 2gbs of ram and I have 4.  Yeah.  And I’m downloading EQ2 as I type this.  The cool part of all of this is that the price for this laptop was cheaper than any of the other nVidia models I found online…  It was $498.  My price limit was $500.  I had decided that if I couldn’t find one for less than $500 that I wasn’t going to get one.  And here I sit with a laptop more powerful than my Dell desktop for half the price!!!!  All I can think is that it was scanned in the system at Walmart wrong.  How can this wonderful machine be only $498 when a Compaq with just 1gb of ram and a 160gb hard drive is priced at $548?  Anyway, I feel guilty about spending the money on a luxury I didn’t really need, but it’s so cool!  And we are doing the house repairs and the car repairs and saving for next Christmas and buying some nice things for the kids too…  I guess it’s okay…  Ugh.  Spenders guilt!  We do still need a fence…  That was the one thing I really thought about, but we talked to some folks about it and that’s going to easily be a $2000 or more project since Cliff and I can’t do it ourselves and we’ll have to wait until next year or the following year depending on whether we have to buy a new used van next tax season.  (That’s the current plan.)  We’re getting all the work done to the van to see if it can last us at least one or two more years.  (It’s a 1996 Dodge Caravan with nearly 200,000 miles on it.  We only drive it to Cliff’s job, Walmart, and Max’s appointments and back.  We rent or borrow a car when we need to go anywhere far away.)

Anyway though, using a laptop is fun!  It by no means replaces my desktop, but it will be a great help when i want to sit somewhere more comfortable and still be able to play my games and all.  The only thing I need now is a laptop cooler and an additional marble mouse.  If there’s any money left after everything else gets done I’ll order those.  (Ugh… Another $50 total….)  :P

What do you think?

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

That’s one of the photos I took the other morning when I walked with Marjorie.

See the fancy scrolly bit there?  Well, what it means is, well, I spent my birthday money.  Ha.  Well, the bit that was in the bank anyway.  I bought some software I wanted back at tax refund time…  Photoimpact x3. I’ve been working with Photoimpact 5 for years and years and i am only now, on Vista, starting to have a few small problems.  All the graphics I have done over the years were done on that software, so I knew getting the latest version was a good idea and they had a sale price up so I took it.  I saved about $20 if you include the shipping cost.  (I got the download version because I don’t really need the manuals.)   :)

It’s really good software because I’m already used to it.  Contrary to what all the Photoshop people say I can do pretty much anything they can do in Photoimpact.  And I also have Photoshop so I do know the difference.  In fact, I bought Photoshop a while back because I kept hearing how great it was.  I’m sure for some it’s great, but for me it was like starting completely over again and I just didn’t want to deal with the hassle.  I know Photoimpact like the back of my hand.  No problems at all.  And wow, it’s got some great features now!

In other news, Max’s new Personal Assistant came for a few hours and we talked and talked and she got to see Max in his natural habitat and seemed quite comfortable.  She has worked with many disabled people at all levels of capacity, and she’s planning on focusing heavily on sign language and watching Max’s signals.  In fact, she caught the “potty” signal before I did once today.  So, I think we’re going to get along great.  She’s going to work with Max here at home and I’m tickled about that.  She wants to go to the school and see where he stands on learning sign language there.  Heck, she even taught me some words today that I’ve been using with Max all evening.  (“Good Job”, “potty”, and “eat”.)  Plus she talked at great length about other cases she’s dealt with, including some older autistics and down syndrome cases.  It was a very interesting experience.  She even loaned us a “Signing Time” DVD to play for Max all this week.

Well, sorry to cut this short, but I want to get back to playing with my new software.  :)

Watch for more graphic changes to the site.  I am having a blast with this software.

Oh the joy that is my life….

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Max woke me up at 6:10am this morning by pinching and punching and hitting me.  Great.  Then I turned around to sit up and get out of bed and his pull-up was sagging nearly to his knees and poo was running down his legs.  Oh great.  So I got up, changed his pull-up, got him cleaned up and back in the bed.  He was up until after midnight last night and luckily it was still dark outside so I turned on his music and got him to go back to bed without any fuss.  BUT, 7:30am he was up again, pinching, hitting, squeezing and punching me, while laughing, trying to get me up again.  I sat up, turned around and damned if it wasn’t a near repeat of the same thing that happened at 6am.  It wasn’t running down his legs thankfully, but still it was pretty darned nasty anyway.  I got Ian up this time and got him to help.  The pinching and hitting I could do without, and the poos worry me….  He ate a bunch of strawberry pop-tarts yesterday.  They’re a new brand we hadn’t tried before, Food Lion brand actually, and looking at the ingredients there’s no real difference between them and other store brands, so I just can’t figure it out.  I was thinking if they were “made from real strawberries” or some other natural fruit then maybe he has a previously undetected allergy, but it doesn’t say anything like that, just the usual “made from concentrate”.  Oh well.  I still think we’ll try a different kind next time.  Right now he’s laughing uncontrollably at THE SAME “FAMILY GUY” EPISODE HE’S BEEN WATCHING EVERY DAY FOR WEEKS.  BUT, I did figure out a way I could change the volume and set it so he can’t turn it up to the extremes he usually does.  I went in to “sounds” in control panel and adjusted the speaker volume in there.  He can’t change that at all without going back in there in cpanel and changing it manually!  Yay!

Ugh.  In other news, my chair finally busted.  It sucks too.  All the ball bearings have fallen out.  I’m having to balance carefully or push with my feet to stay upright.  Ugh.  Cliff says we have to go thrift store shopping tomorrow and find me a new chair.  Keep your fingers crossed!  I need something that swivels and that I can sit cross legged in.  I hate regular desk/computer chairs.  I prefer chairs like these:

And I’m currently sitting in one like this:

What I’ll have to actually get we’ll just have to wait and see.  I don’t suppose I’d be lucky enough to get one of these:

Ha ha!  No, the closest to that would probably be:

In fact they call it the “Trek Swivel-Action” chair.   Ha ha!  It does look more comfortable than Kirk’s chair though….

I would go for a standard office chair if they were wider.  I like to put one foot in my seat when I’m sitting here.  I’m like those birds who fold up one leg under them when standing.  I always fold up one leg while sitting here.  Standard office chairs aren’t made to accomodate this.  If the “big and tall” type office chairs were wide enough though one of those might work…

That’s a rather extreme example, but you get the idea.  A wider seat means I can sit on my foot comfortably.  Yay!  (I am seriously wierd, aren’t I?)

Anyway, we’ll see what happens.  It’s easy to find a big chair that would work for size.  What’s not easy is finding one that swivels.  I need that because of Max.  I have to be able to turn around when he’s climbing and leaning on me.  (Life is crazy around here, I’m telling you.)  :P

So, wish us luck.  At least I get to go shopping tomorrow.  I love going to the thrift stores.  I think I’m gonna push to visit all four of the close by ones.  Cliff will complain, but it’ll be okay.  I wonder if they’ll mind me bringing my tape measure…..
